Q. How do I find out my MVCC Email Address and/or password?

Q. Where can I get Anti-Virus software?
A. The MVCC Bookstore sells Anti-Virus software. Also, see the
ResNet Anti-Virus page for more information.
Q. What kind of support does technical support provide?
A. Tech support only assists ResNet customers with issues related
to connecting to the network. Tech support cannot assist with general
PC or application related questions. See the Tech

Q. What is the speed of my Internet connection?
A. Each student is allocated a maximum of 4Mbit downstream and
256K upstream to the Internet.
Q. Can I run P2P or filesharing programs?
A. Yes. As long as you (or the software) does not violate any laws
or terms of the acceptable use policy. Illegally downloading
copyrighted
music,
video
or software can quickly get you into serious trouble and is strongly
discourged. There are many legal and reasonable alternatives
available.
Q. Can I connect a video game console (ie.
Xbox) to the ResNet Network?
A. Yes, but unless you are connecting your gaming console through
a router or switch, you will need to manually register the device
on ResNet. Go to the Gaming Console page for more information.
Q.
Can I connect a router or switch to the ResNet network?
A. Yes. Routers and switches will enable you to connect more than
one computer to ResNet (up to 8) at the same time. Switches will
require a special crossover Ethernet cable (comes with most
routers).
Q. Can I provide Internet access to other students through
my computer, a router or wireless router?
A. This is probably not a good idea from a security standpoint.
Keep in mind that you are responsible for all Internet activity
that originates from the network devices that are registered under
your name.
Q. Can
I run a webserver or other type of server that is can be publically
accessable on the Internet?
A. At this time, all incoming connections from the internet
to student IP addresses are firewalled. We're
interested in seriously considering any requests, so please Email
support@dreamscape.com if this is something you need.
Q. Can I obtain a static IP address?
A. At this time, all incoming connections from the internet
to student IP addresses are firewalled. We're
interested in seriously considering any requests, so please Email

Q. Do I have to do anything if I change dorm rooms?
A. No. Once you've registered your computer on Resnet, you
can move it anywhere on the campus network.
